Dr. Tammy Nay, DVM

I was raised on a large mixed animal farm at Fallis, AB. My family farmed nearly everything from chickens to bison and I shared my parents love of caring for the livestock and pets as I pursued a career in veterinary medicine.

I received my BSc in Agriculture in 1992 from the University of Alberta. I went on to The Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon, SK, receiving my Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1996.

I have enjoyed mixed animal practice in the community of Onoway since graduation. I love the variety of the work including beef, dairy, horse, small animal, small ruminants, a lot of pet pigs and (nearly) everything in between.

Outside of work, I have 2 daughters, an acreage with horses, cows, a dog and barn cats. Other interests include trail riding, cattle sorting, travelling, quilting and scrapbooking. I have been a leader for the 4H Veterinary Science project since 2002.

I like mentoring students and hope to inspire future veterinarians to love mixed animal practice and the community that supports them.

Dr. Tanya Knittig, DVM

I was raised on a cow/calf operation in southern Alberta. I have always had a passion for animals and decided in Grade 8 that I wanted to be a veterinarian.

I received my BSc in Agriculture with Distinction in 1995 from the University of Alberta. I then went to the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon, SK and finished my Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 1999.

I started at a mixed animal practice in Camrose, AB and then a year later landed in Barrhead, AB where I have spent most of my career in a mixed animal practice.

I took a year off in the fall 2019 to 2020 and have been practicing in Onoway part time for the last 4 years.

I was able to explore my artistic side by taking up oil painting. I also love to travel, take photographs and garden. For 13 years I was a Girl Guide leader as well as District Commissioner.

I am excited to be starting this business with a fantastic group of women!

Dr. Venessa Ibsen, DVM

A true western Canadian, Venessa has spent many years living in Alberta, British Columbia and Saskatchewan.

She completed her Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry at the University of British Columbia – Okanagan in 2014.

She then spent 5 years as an embryologist at a dairy veterinary practice in Abbotsford, where her love of large animal medicine was fostered.

Getting into WCVM meant making the trek to Saskatoon in 2019 to complete her DVM in 2023. Upon graduation, Venessa worked in a mixed animal practice in Olds, Alberta for a year and half.

Venessa loves all aspects of Vet Med and loves being a part of the MorEnergy team!

In her spare time, Venessa romps around the outdoors with her two dogs, Gryffindor and Lucia, and her kitten, Mogget.

She enjoys reading, creating a variety of art, crafts and working out.

Fun fact about Venessa is that she was born in Germany and speaks semi fluent German.

She’s hoping to find a beautiful acreage to add to her herd of animals and start a garden!

Dr. Taylor Ward, DVM

A local face that some of you may recognize. Taylor grew up in Parkland County and is excited to be back serving her community.

From a young age Taylor has known she wanted to be a veterinarian.

She completed her Bachelor of Science in Animal Health with distinction from the University of Alberta in 2020.

Through her undergrad degree her passion for veterinary medicine grew. In 2021 she was accepted to the University of Calgary Veterinary program.

This entailed a move to Calgary, but she still remained an Oilers fan at heart.

Through her fourth-year practicum rotations Taylor got to work with Dr. Nay and Val (RVT) and that is where her relationship with MorEnergy began.

In June 2025 Taylor graduated with distinction from the DVM program and found a home with the MorEnergy team.

In Taylor’s spare time she enjoys hanging out with her friends and can often be found paddle boarding on one of the lakes or floating down the river.

As well she enjoys reading, camping, and has started to take up running.

Dr. Jolene Lawrence, DVM

Jolene grew up on a cattle ranch in Fort Macleod and knew she wanted to be veterinarian from a young age.

She attended the University of Alberta taking her Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from 2001-2004 before entering the DVM program at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine.

After graduating in 2008 with her husband Robert Lawrence, she moved to Fairview Alberta where she practiced as a mixed animal practitioner for 3.5 years before starting a family.

She moved to Westlock in 2012 and since then has been practicing small animal veterinary medicine on a part time basis at Westlock Veterinary Centre while raising her 3 children Ian, Janessa, and Emily.

In January of 2025, Jolene became a locum veterinarian and has enjoyed working at both MorEnergy Vet Services and Westlock Veterinary Centre doing small animal medicine and dentistry.

When she is not working as a veterinarian, she enjoys spending time with her kids, horses, volunteering in the community, and being a 4-H Vet Science leader (along wirh Dr Tammy Nay) in the Double Diamond 4-H Multi Club.

Dr. Lindsay Geitzenauer, DVM, MBA, EVD-SVA, IVCA (Certified in Animal Chiropractic)

She gained hands-on experience at Onoway Veterinary Clinic during her practicum, later working at Stony Plain Veterinary Clinic before returning to Onoway, where she remained in various roles until 2024. That year, she founded MorEnergy Veterinary Services Ltd., driven by a passion for animal care and a desire to build a practice rooted in community and excellence.

Her career has also included extensive teaching roles since 2005, instructing Veterinary Medical Receptionist and Animal Health Technologist programs at Lakeland College, Olds College, and NAIT. She played a key role in launching several innovative programs, including the first online Animal Health Technology program and a Production Animal Ultrasound Pregnancy Detection course now offered at multiple institutions.

In addition to clinical and teaching work, Val provides contract porcine services, teaches in Olds College’s Veterinary Practice Management Certificate program, and serves on the board of the Farming Forward Association.

Annette Visser, RVT

I’m a Registered Veterinary Technologist graduating from NAIT in 1997.

I began my career working for Alberta Agriculture as a technician for the Swine Research Team. From there I moved to a position in the Pathology Department of Alberta Agriculture assisting the pathologists to determine disease processes in livestock production animals. As Alberta Agriculture’s focus shifted the position shifted to increased disease surveillance within the province with much attention on BSE and CWD.

During my time with Alberta Agriculture I completed my B.Sc at Concordia University.

After our 3 kids were born I stayed home to raise kids and cattle. I became very involved in 4H with the kids becoming the beef and general leader of the Duffield 4H Club.

In 2021, I returned to work as an RVT working in a clinic setting for the first time at Onoway Veterinary Clinic until beginning this adventure.

Sarah Fisher, RVT

My name is Sarah and I have worked at Morenergy Veterinary Services since Feb 2025.

I am a RVT, graduated from Lakeland College Animal Health Technology program in 2015.

I chose the RVT field because I have a keen interest in helping animals get better by helping figure out their diagnosis and then helping teach the owners about the treatment plan. I also like all the hands on time I get with the patients.

I like mixed animal practice, my main interest is large animals especially the cows, goats, and sheep.

Morenergy Veterinary Services is a great place to work as it is always busy and you never know what is next – anything from dogs and cats to horses to cows, sheep, goats or pigs.

We can see a variety of cases and species in 1 day.

A fun fact is I live on a farm with my husband Curtis and daughter Makayla and with a variety of animals- dogs, cattle, horses, ducks, chickens, turkeys, cats and pigs.
